Health

In Cameroon, the problem of health care is on the decline essentially in three points:

1.- the lack of facilities and difficulty of access:

The health care facilities are insufficient and frequently very distant from the poverty stricken areas and the villages. The absence of roads or the deteriorated state of others dissuades bush taxis, making care inaccessible to numerous populations.

2.- difficulty for patients to pay the required fees:

Generally, the patient is not accepted at the hospital or the dispensary unless he pays the required deposit; even urgent situations do not dispense of this obligation.

3.- concept of illness :

The African considers a curse to be the primary cause of illness. He loses time and means (money or elements of swop) in consulting various marabous and attempting treatment with traditional medicines. It is not a matter of denying the efficiency of ancestral plant therapy but false diagnosis are numerous and the lack of hygiene associated with the lack of knowledge or the lack of means for preserving potions, complicates the situation rather than resolve it.

AFRICA FUTURE acts

Santé

- in building well equipped hospitals in the disadvantaged inner city or the bush areas. (1 hospital in Ngodo-Si at the heart of the bush area, 1 hospital in Emana-Village, disadvantaged inner city in the outskirts of Yaounde, 1 hospital in Douala-Boko, a very populated and underprivileged area of the economic capital of Cameroon),

- in building six rural dispensaries for which AFRICA FUTURE assures the management with competent personnel and the supply of medications(in Mbeng, in Bobog, in Messondo, in Nguibassal, in Pan-Makak, in Nkongada). Each dispensary is of a brick construction, with along side a house for the nurse and an eventual aide.

- in assuring that staff are formed to teach patients the importance of basic hygiene and attempt to convince them of the «real» source of diseases and the importance of receiving «valide» treatment as soon as possible.

- in obtaining reliable supplies so as to dispense «adequate» medications

- in not demanding a deposit upon the arrival of the patient, in having accessible fees adapted to the locality and social conditions, in allowing credits (with much understanding), Care must not be free, so as to avoid assistantship that devalues the human being as well as the service given.
