BENEFIT CONCERT FOR ‘AFRIQUE FUTURE’

The acoustics of the Church of Sainte-Geneviève in Mulhouse were ideal for the magnificent concert given by the Trombinacoolos Quartet on March 8th 2026. For the third time, the four amiable trombonists lent their talents for free to a musical event in aid of AFRIQUE FUTURE, which attracted a large audience.

After president Bernadette Escher’s presentation of the association’s objectives and needs, the concert started with Buxtehude’s fanfare. It went on with works ranging from the 17th century until today, presented with useful information and a touch of humour, and performed with great skill, in wonderful arrangements for trombone. The audience could enjoy pieces of – among others – Bach, Elgar, Wagner (his famous Tannhäuser overture), or Fucik (his lively Florentiner Marsch).

The concert thus gradually moved from baroque to rock, via jazz and Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’, before getting the public swaying to South American tunes and ending in a powerful style with Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’, to which the enthusiastic audience spontaneously clapped their hands and stamped their feet.

The musical evening concluded with several encores and rapturous applause, and above all, with a generously filled offering basket, all the more so as the parish had kindly made the church available free of charge. The donations collected will contribute to the construction of a school in the Cameroonian bush.

And then, the four cheerful trombonists headed backstage – that is, to the sacristy – for a well-deserved drink and finger buffet offered by the AF team.
